Daytime Use: I gave the Thirsties Duo Diaper 4 Bums Up for daytime use. It works fantastic and we don’t have leaks with this diaper. The combo of the 2 inserts (one cotton/hemp, the other microfiber/terry) makes for a lot of absorbency in a really trim package.
Overnight Use: The Duo Diaper earned 3 Bums Up for overnight use. The standard inserts would provide enough absorbency for a younger baby (up to 6 months). With an older baby, toddler, or heavy wetter I would recommend adding additional absorbency. The pocket is large enough to add more inserts or you could also use a natural fiber lay-in insert.
Ease of Use: I went with 3 Bums Up for ease of use. I love that these diapers are a two size system. This provides a better fit than a one size system and you don’t have to buy up to 5 sizes of a sized system. The single row of snaps could be confusing for a cloth newbie or a daycare provider. I also noticed that the snaps are really hard to snap/unsnap.
Quality: One of the things that I love about Thirsties is that all Thirsties products are USA-made by a group of women, many of whom work in the comfort and convenience of their own homes. Also, since they are a 2 sized system, they will last longer than one sized diapers. This earned Thirsties a 4 Bums Up for quality.
Overall: 3.5 Bums Up! I love that this is a sleeve type diaper which means I don’t have to unstuff, the inserts will just agitate out in the wash. I am not a huge fan of the elastic in the front of the diaper, I think it makes it less aesthetically pleasing. However, a lot of people like that elastic in the front to help contain the diaper contents! I think it is just a matter of personal preference. I think it is important to note that this print is one of my all time favorite diaper prints. Thirsties has very cute, exclusive prints.
