Night weaning was going so well. We had the one night when he ripped open his tongue frenulum (night 3) so we took that night off. But other than that, we were doing great. We made it through night 10 (which was really night 9 since we took night 3 off).

He was still waking up between one and three times each night but I was able to get him back to sleep with minimal fussing. He would fight a little bit and then accept a drink of water and fall back asleep. Until night 11.

Night 11 kicked my ass.

For some reason, he would only sleep if I was sitting straight up and his head was on my shoulder. I made it until 12:30am. I even tried moving to the couch to make it easier for me to sleep sitting up. I woke up at 6:30am and we were both on the couch. My boob was in his mouth.

Night 12 was interesting. The Gnome actually slept in his own bed until 2am (this is HUGE people). He usually comes into our bed between 9 and 11. But, at 2am, I didn’t even fight it. I just let him nurse. I think I just needed a break from the night wakings.

I felt so guilty all day. And disappointed in myself. 12 nights of sleeping like crap and making my poor baby cry for nothing. But tonight is night 13 and I am determined to get back on track. I am not going to go through this whole thing again next month.

I will update y’all tomorrow for my Manic Mommy Monday post. Wish me luck!

Keep in mind if he suddenly starts sleeping horribly it could always be more teeth, or a slight ear infection or something. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Good luck!

Oh no, he’s always woken to eat a few times a night :

This is just so hard to go through!!  Elisa is right, there are some different things that can keep babes up at night.  Also, I read that growth spurts can keep them up.  Another theory is that babies get so excited about what they’ve learned that it literally keeps them up :)

John thomas is still waking up in the middle of the night to feed. I let him, because he doesnt eat much during the day and on top of that I feel incredibly guilty from taking it away from him when he doesn’t get to nurse during the day…maybe this summer we will try it! lol

I totally get that. P nurses a lot less during the day now too though. I just didn’t want him to make up for it by nursing all night long!
