It’s Real Diaper Week! All this week I will be trying to keep up with the Real Diaper Week 2012 Blog Hop hosted by Calley over at The Eco Chic. Today’s topic is Real Simple Real Diapers Outreach – Cloth Diapering 101.

For someone who doesn’t cloth diaper, cloth diaper advocacy might almost sound like a joke. But for me, once I started, I totally fell in love with cloth diapering. I know it sounds crazy to love something that your child poops in, but I do. And a lot of the other cloth diapering mamas that I know love it too.

How many people who use disposable diapers on their kids can say that they love diapers?

For a long time, I didn’t consider myself a cloth diaper advocate. I knew that I loved cloth diapering, but I didn’t realize that I loved it so much that I thought it would be great for everyone else too. More and more often, friends started asking me about cloth diapers. I wrote this post in response to a friend who asked me about it (she converted to cloth and has been using it full-time for almost 9 months now).

So, how do I advocate for cloth diapers?

  • I blog about cloth diapering (and I know that I have converted at least one of my readers, E, because she’s in a cloth diaper group with me on Facebook).
  • I talk about cloth diapers, in real life and online.
  • I show off my son’s cute diapers every where we go. Especially in the summer, who needs pants when you have cute diapers?!
  • I wear my bumGenius Genius shirt & use my Genius coffee cup as often as possible.
  • I’m involved with a local cloth diaper group (DFW Cloth Diaper Group).
  • I have a DFW Cloth Diaper Group magnet on my car.
  • I’m involved with a local cloth diaper lending program for low-income families.
  • More recently, I opened a home-based cloth diaper store and I attend shows and expos as a vendor.

That’s really all it takes. I walk the walk, but I let the diapers do the talking. I don’t start conversations about cloth, the diapers themselves are enough of a conversation starter. I love that people are interested enough to ask questions about them, and even consider switching.

Are you a cloth diaper advocate? How do you advocate for cloth diapering?
