DFW Cloth Diaper Project – Real Simple, Real Diapers Savings
It’s Real Diaper Week! All this week I will be trying to keep up with the Real Diaper Week 2012 Blog Hop hosted by Calley over at The Eco Chic. Today’s topic is Real Simple, Real Diapers Savings (cost savings, diapering on a budget, cloth diaper banks or support organizations).
Today I get to talk about a cause that is very important to me. But first, lets talk about cloth diapers and savings. One of the main reasons my husband and I decided to cloth diaper The Gnome was to save money. I have mentioned it before but I will say it again, If I did not breastfeed and cloth diaper I would not be able to stay at home with The Gnome. We simply would not be able to afford disposable diapers and formula on my husband’s salary.
There was a time last year when work was really slow for my husband. We ended up qualifying for WIC. Because we had plenty of savings and because I breastfeed and we use cloth diapers, we were okay. But I know without a doubt in my heart that we would not have been able to make it through. We would not have been able to afford diapers.
I know that there are countless families out there that are in the same position that we were last year. That’s why I am so proud to be involved with the DFW Cloth Diaper Project. The Project is the brainchild of Brenda Barnhart who wanted to do something when she was behind a woman in line who had to make the choice between groceries and diapers. The DFW Cloth Diaper Project is a cloth diaper lending program to families in Dallas & Fort Worth, Texas. We rely solely on donations of diapers from moms like YOU and in the past 6 months we have been able to provide enough diapers to cover 5 baby bottoms. If you or someone you know lives in the DFW area and is in need, please contact us. If you have diapers that you would like to donate, please contact us!
Even if you can afford disposable diapers, that money could be put to much better use (how’d you like an extra $2000-$3000 in your savings or your baby’s college fund?). There are many resources for cloth diapering on a budget or even cloth diapering for free. Check out the following links:
