Welcome to Manic Mommy Monday! Every week we link up blog posts that are updates about us and what is going on in our lives. Everyone is welcome to link up (scroll down to find the linky) and you can find more information on the main Manic Mommy Monday page.

Sorry for the late post (only two hours of Monday left!). We got back from looking at houses in Oklahoma this evening and I am just getting a chance to sit down at the computer. We left Saturday evening at bed time (so that The Gnome would sleep for the 5 1/2 hour drive) and then got home tonight around 7:30.

This is the driveway!

The good news:

We found a house! It’s cute and tiny (600sf!) and on a ton of land (40 acres!) which is exactly what we were looking for. The land is perfect, the house is situated right in the middle so you can’t see or hear any neighbors at all. We are putting an offer in tomorrow morning. The owner (he built it himself!) has two homes in the same area and said he can be out in a week so we asked for early possession in our offer. We wouldn’t be homeless at all! It’s way quirky but I will get to that if we actually get the house.

The bad news:

The owner has had two deals fall through because of financing. Apparently in Oklahoma they won’t finance as raw land with the structure on the land and they won’t finance it as primary residence because the tiny house alone won’t appraise for the asking price and they won’t take the land into consideration. We’re working with three different banks to try to make this happen.

It’s 40 miles from where Hubby will be working. That means (obviously) he can’t come home for lunch any more. And it means we would need to reevaluate the fuel budget for the challenge. $50/week just would not be enough. It’s barely cutting it now and he’s only driving 54 miles a day (to and from work twice), not 80 (to and from work once).

In other news:

For spending pretty much an entire weekend in the car, The Gnome was amazing. I can not believe how far he has come from hating the car seat so much.

It was nice to see my sister, niece, and brother in law this weekend (even though my sister is coming down to visit us in two days). The Gnome and my (12 year old) niece get along so well. I am thrilled that he is going to get to grow up with her, especially since neither of them have siblings.

You may have seen it on Facebook but somehow The Gnome got ahold of a year old wild bird’s egg that my sister had sitting on the end table as a decoration. And ate some of it. I FREAKED out. He was fine though. Then he got ahold of Natural House’s Trashy trash can deodorizer and scrubber and drank some. We called poison control and fortunately, it is indeed all natural and non-toxic. Parents of the year award to my husband and I.

I really missed the chickens. And my two “kind of favorite” hens have definitely become my two favorite hens. They were so sweet and snuggly and actually wanted to be held when I got home today. The baby Silkies are fluffing up nicely too. Both our neighbors (who kept an eye on them) and Hubby mentioned that they look like they’re wearing Uggs!

The new location where Hubby is supposed to work originally wanted him to start August 16th but today they called and asked if he could start on the first. Why is everything happening so fast?!

That’s all for now. Just a warning that the blogs may be neglected a bit while we move and get settled and all that. I will try to update but it’s getting harder to find the time. As long as all goes well with this house, we should be all settled by August 15th at the latest. If it doesn’t, I have no idea when things will settle down.

Have fun packing, sorting, financing and getting the links out of the budget.  You’ll be happy in some house somewhere before too long.

Good luck packing and everything!  That’s awesome the way everything has worked out-hoping it continues to go smoothly!  I can’t imagine only 600 sq feet though!  Our first condo we lived it was a little bit bigger than that and I felt like the walls were closing in on us.  Our townhome we bought was 1200 sq feet and with 2 kids I felt the same way.  Our house is probably about the same amount of sq feet as our townhome but no stairs to take away from it and a lot less wasted space.  I can’t imagine living in something smaller personally-I told DH I needed breathing room to homeschool including an office/homeschooling room.  That’s totally awesome if you can make it work :).  I can’t wait to see more pictures!

I hope that you will be able to buy this house…I personally, would LOVE that much land and a much smaller house. My husband and I are working towards becoming more self-sufficient and I was pretty devasted when he heard about a job opening within his company that would allow us to move back to Idaho. He was pretty sure that he would get the postion, so we started looking online for “the perfect house” and we did! It had been on the market for a while because it was a little far from town, also built by the owner, and had more than enough room for animals and a garden.

I hope everything falls into place for you soon!
